"Valentine's not for me. I don't know what the fuzz is all about. So cliche..well since I don't have love.. no point". As
I overhead this man having this conversation with a lady on the bus, I was tempted to
weep for her pained expression..and as much, squeeze his shallow brains.
There is a point! Valentine's day is not a random celebration to pass off as insignificant. The theme of the day itself is a force that has shaped our very human existence thus far. So why neglect your true nature. Should this guy expect this woman not to require love? Should she disregard her need for the true measure of existence. We live our lives based on love. We all need it; no matter how cliche we think it is. And regardless of the dynamics of our relationships. Just as we celebrate Christmas, New Year, Birthdays and all other occasions that count-- Valentine should not miss out. Its appalling how the simplicity of this day is something very few people have gotten a handle on.
Probably if the man on the bus realized the true essence of this day-- an appreciation for all the love he's been privileged to receive up until this day. I wish this lady could preach him this!
Valentine's day is a day for people with love. Don't dare say you don't fall into that category. Love was not created to be felt by those dating alone. Don't you love your family? Don't you love that girl you call your best friend? Don't you love your housemate? (okay maybe not). Even God,..don't you love him? (Ah yes you can val God!). It extends beyond relationships. The biggest question I should rather ask?-- Don't you have love in you?. or you're just strings of dried-up bamboo sticks muffled together? I ask these because there are tones of ways to display your appreciation. There are homeless people, needy children, sick patients, etc., who can really do well with a tip of all the love that flew around today. If no one ever showed love, no one would know what such things as peace, joy..felt like. Meanwhile you spent your day complaining about "no love"--on your six by six inches comfi bed?
It was some kind of love a psychopath lacked that got him into the way he is. If you had no one, imagine where you'd be right now-- how your life would have turned out. Just imagine it for a second. Could this man on the bus understand this; that giving to someone in the way they need it, is a personal matter.
Valentine wasn't created for us to demand love of selfish desires and reasons. It made itself as a measure of our ways; to reevaluate how we have been living our lives. And a requisite need for redemption-from wrong choices. Wrong choices about family, friends, habits, social circle, relationships, circumstances, attitude, behavior etc. Its a day for people capable of love. A people with love in their hearts. Ah..don't run! Didn't you suckle you mother's breast, human? [See?--easy-peasy example of the simplicity of love.] You fall in the category, no excuses or clauses. Touch someone's heart. Show some love. We all got a lot of love to give. And that's what valentine reminds us of.
Wether today was a full day or just another random day -- it reminded us of those things we stopped doing--the love we
stopped sharing. The things our future will miss out on if we let today go without making
some changes tomorrow. ---The true meaning of Valentine---
Some of you may have spent it doing very little because you waited around, and waited around for someone to validate your day while you could have spent it putting a smile on a face of someone that really needs to smile. Just as the Christians celebrate
Christmas or the Muslims celebrate Sallah and we all celebrate the New year, coming up with new ways to change our lives--Valentine is nothing different of the sort.
Stop waiting to start living fully? A full life is not possible without a heart filled
with love and laughter. Today questioned how many lives I
have affected, just as birthdays are
yardsticks for how far one has advanced. I asked myself, if today was to be my last day-- would I
leave it having touched someone else's life?. Will my life have been
worth living? Did I pay attention to those things that truly mattered?. Did you? Will you?
Thinking out loud!-- my love goes out to you reading this right now. Happy Valentine.. I hope you found love right where you are!
